Created by Denver CO based ceramicist, Peter Karner. This functional platter was hand-thrown functional porcelain fired in a hard-brick kiln to 2300 F in a heavy reduction atmosphere. Patterns are created free-hand and are applied in multiple layers using methods such as wax-resist and brushwork to imbue the patterns with depth. Featuring mossy greens, teals, garnet reds, plums, toasty browns, blacks, and gunmetal.
The base glazes that Peter decorates on are designed to capture carbon from the atmosphere of the kiln. This "carbontrap" effect is random and adds tremendously to the overall energy of a piece. One-of-a-kind.
Large Lip Platter with Circles + Diamonds - Peter Karner
Peter Karner's home and studio are located in central Denver, Colorado. Working full-time, Karner produces six bodies of work a year. Each body of work offers the opportunity to explore new ideas and refine existing ones. Karner is intrigued by the marriage of form and decoration. In striving to integrate these in each pot, he has the opportunity to create work that is both timeless and modern.
